Frequently Asked Questions

Have a Question? We are here to help

What size Plate Compactors do you offer?

What is the new BP series and which BOMAG plates have been replaced?

With constant work to improve products, BOMAG have released the new and impressive BP series of Plate Compactors in summer of 2025.

Some of the old models have been replaced and here is a break down:

The BVP 10/30 - back by popular demand but now with a new engine!

The BP 12/35 replaces the BP 10/35 and BVP 10/36

The BP15/40 and BP20/45 have replaced the BVP18/45

This has made the BOMAG plate compactor range more streamlined and versatile to keep our customers working to their best.

What weight is a typical plate compactor?

The BOMAG plate compactors design is streamlined to make them as light as possible whilst still having top performance.

The plates range from 50kg all the way to 125kg.

The reversing plates are slightly bigger and range from 125kg to 250kg.

What is a reversing plate compactor?

Unlike the standard plate compactors which are single direction and only move forward, the reversing plate compactors can move both forwards and backwards.

This is very useful for when compaction demands on site increase and you have larger areas to cover. Ideal for small to medium construction sites, for earthworks, asphalt and block paving

Which is better: a forward or reversible plate compactor?

The best option depends on your job size and ground type.

Forward plate compactors are ideal for small to medium tasks like compacting patios or patching trenches. They're lightweight, easy to manoeuvre, and perfect for tight spots.

Reversible plate compactors offer more power and flexibility, allowing forward and backward motion—ideal for deeper compaction and larger areas.

BOMAG’s reversible models provide excellent performance on soil, hardcore, and granular materials.

At BTE, we stock both types to suit different contractor needs, and our team can help you choose based on your project.

How often should a plate compactor be serviced?

Servicing intervals vary by use, but as a guide, compactors should be serviced every 50–100 hours of operation.

Routine maintenance includes engine oil changes, air filter checks, belt inspections, and plate cleaning. BOMAG plate compactors feature robust build quality but benefit from regular upkeep to extend working life.

At BTE Plant Sales, we offer service plans and stock genuine BOMAG parts to keep your machine running efficiently. For high-use contractors, we recommend scheduled maintenance with our mobile or depot engineers.

Yes! BOMAG is one of the most trusted names in compaction equipment. Their plate compactors are known for durability, ease of use, and high compaction force. Whether you choose their forward or reversible plates, BOMAG models feature reliable Honda or Hatz engines, wear-resistant baseplates, and low-vibration handles for safer, more comfortable operation.
